Hairstyling At Home and Doing It Right

Many people only want to get their hair done right. Especially those who work at high end jobs or customer relations, having a good hairstyle can very well spell the difference between a pat on the shoulder and a reprimand from their supervisor. Simply put, their hairstyle means everything.

But of course there are others who prefer to do things their way. Instead of paying a visit to the barber shop or at the salon, they would rather stay at home and style their hair… their way.

If you are one of those people, and if you are only starting to get your feet wet on the art of hairstyling at home, here are a few beginners' tips that would definitely go a long way.

Tip #1: Work only with wet or moist hair

Do you know why hairstylists at the salon would always ask you to wet your hair first before sitting you in front of the mirror? That's because it's always easier to work with wet hair than dry hair. Before proceeding to cut your hair, make sure your hair has been shampoo'd recently and tangle-free.

Tip #2: Use quality scissors

Try to invest in some quality hair scissors if you are planning to do most of the cutting yourself in your home starting from now on. Nice sharp scissors would prevent you from accidentally pulling your hair during the process of hairstyling.

Tip #3: Simple can be more appealing

Especially in the beginning, you might want to settle with simple haircuts at first just to get a feel of how you truly want to style your hair in the future. Don't fret, everything has a learning curve, including home hairstyling. Start with trimming your hair at least one length everywhere. This usually works, take note, for both men and women.

Tip #4: For curly hair, make longer cuts

Curly hair can be a bit deceiving. The worst part is not knowing you haven´t made the right length of cuts until you're always in the subway in the morning on your way to the office. As a safety precaution, with curly hair, try to make considerably longer cuts than you would with straight hair. It should do the trick.

Tip #5: Final word of advice – keep it simple

The worst thing you can do when hairstyling at home is get carried away and have your hair come out worse than if you had visited a barber shop or the salon. To prevent this from happening, the best advice is almost always the simplest, most straightforward advice: keep it simple. For elaborate hairstyles, leave it to professionals.

For best results, and as a beginner you need all the help you can get, we all do, you might want to invest in some Moroccanoil (for smooth soft hair), Parlux hair dryers (they manufacture the best hair dryers) and, for men, several hair products from American Crew products. They will go a long way into making your personal project all the more satisfying and produce much better results. So when your friends tell you your hair looks great, you can tell them, "I did it all by myself."
